A latest language, in the year 1959 termed COBOL (or Common Business Oriented Language) was introduced for business purpose applications.

Divisions of a COBOL Program:
 
Each and every COBOL program must have four divisions in order in which they are illustrated below:
 
a) Identification division
b) Environment Division
c) Data Division
d) Procedure Division
 
In Identification division, the particulars concerning the author, date of writing the program and so on will be specified.
 
In atmosphere division, the particulars concerning the computer surroundings beneath which the program was compiled and written and so on will be well-informed.
 
In Data division, the variables which are employed by the program will be stated and this is a significant division for program.
 
In procedure division, the statements of programming will be written and it is the most vital division.
